Hello lovely ones,

You have probably heard of Younique by now as there seems to be huge amount of Facebook “friends”, followers and readers who bombard me with emails, DM’s and friend requests so I’m certain you have probably had the same thing happen to you. I have been inundated with offers to start a business but it’s really not for me, I will stick to buying and reviewing products rather than sell them as I just don’t have enough energy to get out there and try to be honest. Power to all those amazing woman and men who are making a living by selling something they believe in, I respect you and wish you all the best in the future with your business.

Younique was started by Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft, a brother-and-sister team and have been around since September 2012. The work they have done in 2 1/2 years is just phenomenal, I haven’t heard of a company doing this well and reaching an audience like this other than Makeup Revolution who are only 1 years old. Younique`s biggest selling product is the Moodstruck 3D Fibre Lashes* ($29) which promises to take your lashes from okay to oh wow! They are supposed to be water-resistant but wash off easily and with statements like these, I was intrigued.

Included in the pack is a case which is the same size as a glasses case with the company logo. Inside is a larger tube which holds a transparent gel and a smaller tube which holds the most important ingredient, the fibres. On first use I was a mess, I had fibres all over my face, eyelids and in my eyes. It was a nightmare. I removed, which was surprisingly easy as it glided right off, and then I sat down and tried again. The second time was a little better although not 100%. It is a little tricky as you need to apply the gel and then go in with the fibres, being careful not to go too close to the eyeball and then you have to cement them in place by adding another layer of transparent gel. Phew! Is this really worth the time and effort I hear you say, and to be honest, it’s not.

Yes my eyelashes were nice, after the 5th attempt when I finally got a handle on the situation, and yes they looked more natural than falsies but why would I stop using regular mascara that takes less time and causes less hassle to use this product? Well first off all, for a daily mascara routine I wouldn’t, it did make my lashes look ok, it added a whole lot of length but it took me fifteen minutes to apply which is not something I am keen to do every day.  This is a mascara that I would only wear for a night out or a special occasion as it gives the look of false lashes without the effort of trying to apply them and let me tell you, for me, applying falsies is worse than this so it will be great for that.

I didn’t really like the brush that came with the transparent gel as it felt bulky and wasn't small enough to fit in the inner and outer corners of my eyes. For the first couple of tries I felt as though I had a lot more product in the middle of my eyes which isn’t a look I am going for. After a few hours I noticed the lashes started to come away from my eyes and left a horrible residue both under and above my eyes. This is a huge no-no in my book. I want my mascara to last on my eyes all day with no seeping in the corners or smudging on my eyes. For this reason, and the reason it takes too long to apply, I wouldn’t recommend.

Have you tried any Younique products yet?

  1. I became a Presenter after seeing what the mascara can do, yes it does take a little getting used to but you bring that time down with practice. Luckily the brush for the gel is changing to a cone shape with the new enhanced mascara being released on July 15th which makes it easier to get to the little lashes.

Other products I can recommend (as a user not a Presenter) are the lip stains and Splurge cream shadows. I got last month's shade called "Charming" and it is just wonderful to use, it has a seafoam-green hint to it and is full of sparkle.

    1. Yeah i was going to try the cream shadows as they look amazing, apparantly pictures dont do it justice and the stains are also another thing on my list to try.

I am glad they are going to change the brush though as i just cant get to grips with that, its too big for my eyes but every time i use the mascara, i seem to get better at it, thankfully! xx

    2. Pictures really don't, I have tried so many times to take a good picture of mine but I'm never happy with them; video works better ;)

  2. It's interesting to see the western take on a fiber mascara. They've been around for years in Japan (actually, it's the ONLY type of mascara available here) and sadly this company is doing it wrong.
Yes, the results can be spectacular and the application should be easy.
The way it works in Japan is the mascara already has the fibers in. One tube is all you need. Well, technically.
Fiber mascaras, while looking lovely on the lashes, tend to kill your lashes as well. That's why they are intended to be used with a mascara primer. The primer protects your lashes and makes it easier to remove it at the end of the day.
It would be interesting to compare this Younique set to a standard Japanese mascara side by side.

    1. I think if a company made a mascara with fibres already in with the gel it would work a lot better, i just felt as though they stuck in my eyes and irritated my eyeballs the first couple of times i used it. I would love to get my hands on an authentic Japanese mascara to compare it to this. If it came down to using Younique and my favourite mascara, i would probably use the latter as its less fiddly xx
