Kat Von D Lock It Foundation

Hi guys,

How are you today? If you read my recent haul post then you will know I picked up the Kat Von D Lock It Foundation ($35) in the shade Light 45 from Sephora. It was £24.20 but with other items including the Shade and Light Palette ($46) and the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20) in shade Outlaw the total came to £99. The shipping, duties and taxes alone were £29!! So if you don’t have a Sephora near you and decide that you want to buy any Kat Von D products or anything from Sephora, then I would suggest pitching in with some friends and splitting the cost of the shipping.

Anyway, let’s get onto the most important thing eh, the review. I was desperate to try this as I heard so many great things from the American bloggers and youtubers. I wasn’t too sure on what shade to buy but settled on Light 45 and it turned out to be the perfect shade for me. They have 19 different shades so there is something for everyone.

The formula is very thick; it is a silicone based foundation that offers high pigmentation and full coverage. Trust me when I say that this is full coverage as it will literally cover everything. I never usually go for full coverage foundations as I am always scared that my skin will look cakey or fake but this one works. I use one pump only and blend out with my Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki Brush (£15.70) or a damp Beauty Blender (£16) and find that it blends out perfectly and leaves my skin beautifully matte.

KVD is paraben, oil and fragrance free and works with all skin types. I personally have oily skin with the odd dry patch and haven’t noticed it sliding off my face nor stick to my dry patches, however I do use the Mario Badescu Rose Facial Spray before applying the foundation as well as the Nivea Post Shave Balm to give me added hydration and then give a final spritz of MB when I have applied my make up, so this sucker is not going to move.

All in all, a mighty fine foundation that gives the most amazing finish. It is super pigmented, easy to blend out and doesn’t irritate my skin.

Have you tried this foundation?
Have you tried anything else from the KVD beauty line that you would recommend?

Hello beautiful,

It Cosmetics seems to be the brand of the moment doesn’t it? I swear, all I’ve noticed on social media is It Cosmetics this and It Cosmetics that so I decided to see what all the fuss was about and pick up the CC+ Eye SPF50 Color Correcting Concealer ($29).

First things first, let’s get all the jargon out the way and tell you what they promise with this concealer. This is a paraben and chemical free anti-aging full coverage eye treatment that is infused with blurring pigments to instantly brighten your entire eye area while protecting your skin with SPF 50+. It also contains a hydrating anti-aging serum as well as acting as a colour corrector. The concealer comes with a cooling spoon applicator which helps smooth out the product whilst cooling the under eye area. As if that wasn’t enough they are also a cruelty free company.

Now for my thoughts. This is a great little product. It is easy to apply, it isn’t thick so it blends out beautifully, it really does brightens my under eye area as well as correct the blue tones. Now my skin has gotten considerably better ever since I cut out some skincare products and started using the Shadeen 27 serum and moisturiser but my skin looks flawless after applying this. I usually conceal my under eyes but I like to add a little to my highlight points such as my nose, forehead, cupids bow and chin and it does a bang up job. If you want to get your hands on this delightful little babe, then find it at Beautylish.

Have you tried IT Cosmetics yet?

Nivea Post Shave Balm As A Primer?

Nivea Post Shave Balm As A Primer?

Nivea Post Shave Balm As A Primer?

Nivea Post Shave Balm As A Primer?

Nivea Post Shave Balm As A Primer?
Hi guys,

I don’t know if you know this but I am a huge Nikki Tutorials fan and when I saw her using the Nivea Post Shave Balm (RRP £5.29) as a primer I was taken aback but knew I had to buy it. I couldn’t believe that such a product would be used like this as it’s a product for men. But think about it, why wouldn’t it work? It contains Chamomile and Vitamin E which helps to sooth irritated skin, calm down redness and help with dry skin. It also has 0% alcohol so it’s perfect for us sensitive folk.

First things first, it’s the cheapest primer I have ever bought that wasn’t actually a primer, I think I paid £2.63 for this as Superdrug were having a sale on certain products but more importantly, it bloody well works! The smell is a little weird at first, but I love men’s products as they smell amazing but once this is worked into the skin, the smells disappears. The product is not as thick as I thought it would be, it does run ever so slightly but its manageable, it’s not like Mac Face and Body (the only ridiculously watery product I could think of) which literally runs off the back of my hand. It’s just a little more lighter than my holy grail Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer (£29) which is actually very light. Once it’s worked in, it goes a little tacky, which I like, it instantly smoothes my skin and makes my foundation glide on like liquid velvet. I also found my make up to last that little bit longer than normal and I also didn’t get as oily as I usually do, I don’t know why because it’s not meant to control oil but I loved that aspect of it.

To say this is a great primer is an understatement! I love how easy it is to use, how well it makes my foundation look and also the fact that I haven’t had any breakouts whilst trying this out. As per usual, as soon as I bought it, I noticed I had already had little samples of this in my bathroom cupboard that Liam forgot to use ha! I love this product as a primer and I think it will be a firm favourite of mine from now on.

Have you ever tried this?
Would you use an aftershave balm as a primer?

Mac Lippies: Stone and Whirl

Mac Lippies: Stone and Whirl
Hello my loves,

How are you today? You`ve probably noticed that I’ve underwent a blog makeover by now. If you don’t know already, my blog was formerly known as "An Impatient Scottish Girl" and I recently had my blog designed by the lovely Aleelily but after looking at it I decided that I was bored of the name and the overall layout of the blog so I decided to go to Pipdig and get them to change it up a bit. I decided on a new name as I wanted to be obvious what my blog was about when you came to my page. Let me know your thoughts on it in the comments below, I would love the feedback. Any who… I decided to pick up some new Mac lipsticks and as soon as I swatched these shades I knew I had to have them. I did wait a few days to decide if I really needed them but after looking at my collection I couldn't find anything remotely similar so I ordered them.

The shades I went for are quite obvious by the name of this post but I thought I would give you some more information on them anyway incase you are in two minds about buying them.

Whirl (£15.50) is a matte lipstick and is described as a dirty rose. This is quite warm toned so it would look great with warm eyeshadows and a gorgeous bronzed look. I wore this on Saturday with a copper/bronze eye and a lot of bronzer to warm up my complexion and I was complimented all night (which was nice!). Stone (£15.50) is very different, is described as a muted greyish taupe shade which is cool toned. I just love looking at this lipstick if I am being perfectly honest, it’s such a gorgeous shade and is perfect if you want to step away from the norm and try a different makeup look. It is a shade that is totally out of my comfort zone but I have to admit I am loving it. As always, there is a beautiful vanilla scent, the formula is gorgeous, they glide on perfectly and as they are matte, they last for hours. If you don't want to commit to a lipstick they also have lip liners (£12.50) in the same shades which may help you make that jump.

Have you tried these shades yet?
Would you dare to wear them?

What are your favourite Mac Lipsticks?

Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015

Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015
Hi guys,

I thought I would do a favourites post with a twist today. I was reminiscing about my favourite products from my younger years with a friend the other day and decided that it would be fun to see how it compares to now. Back in 2005 I was 20 and of course you know I am 30 now. The way I apply make-up has changed in 10 years, I also use more products now as we didn't contour or highlight back then, well I didn't but now I do. It will be interesting to see if I still love any of the items from then.

Now, I was going to do a true make-up favourite posts including high end products but I didn't think it would make a good comparison as it wasn't fair to use drugstore products for 2005 and the high end for 2015 as I didn't use a lot of high end make-up back then. I will do a high end list next week to see how that has changed.

I was a massive Bourjois and Avon back in the day, I would order loads of Avon makeup, skincare and bath products and think I was the dogs b*****ks because it was a little more expensive that the likes of Miss Sporty, Collection and Rimmel ha-ha, how times have changed. I don’t buy anything from Avon anymore which is a shame because I loved some of their products. Maybe it’s time I picked up some of their products to see if they are still the same.

Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015

Foundation
I loved Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation (£7.69) when I was 20. I thought it was the bomb as it gave me the perfect finish and was easy to apply. I did buy this in the shade Sand Beige which was ridiculous as I am fair skinned but I did layer up on the tan back then so hopefully it didn't look too bad. Nowadays, my absolute favourite foundation of life is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (£9.99) which has the perfect coverage, it leaves my skin looking dewy and healthy which is exactly what I want. I am shade vanilla in this foundation which is a huge change from sand beige ha-ha.
OVERALL VERDICT: Bourjois wins hands down. There isnt a huge difference in price but comparing the products themselves, the healthy mix foundation is lighter and leaves my skin looking gorgeous.

Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015

Blusher
I can’t really remember what blusher I used religiously but I am sure I used this Bourjois Little Round Pot (£7.99) for a while and liked it. Nowadays, my favourite is the Max Factor Crème Puff Blush (£8.99) as the colour payoff is phenomenal. It blends out super easily, leaves my skin with a slight glow and lasts all day.
OVERALL VERDICT: Max Factor without a doubt. The price isn't any different but in my opinion the Max Factor blush is better than the Bourjois one.

Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015
Mascara
Well, 2005 was all about Maybelline mascara and today is no different. Back then the Maybelline Big Great Lash (£4.99) was all the rage. This tube is so iconic for woman over a certain age and I am sure you have probably seen it in shops today but now I am all about Falsies (£7.99) or Lash Sensational (£7.99) as they offer the best mascara for a reasonable price.
OVERALL VERDICT: As I was a Maybelline girl back then and still am today, I would say it was a draw. They offer the best mascaras out there in my opinion and I think I will always have a favourite Maybelline mascara right into my 70s and 80s.

Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015

Bronzer
I used to layer up on Rimmel Sun Shimmer tan (£6.99) which has a slightly different design now, and then use the Avon Bronzing Pearls (£10) all over my face! I know, one hot mess!! Now, I like a subtle bronze look which is all about the gorgeous Tanya Burr Peachy Glow Palette (£8). The payoff is unlike anything else I have tried from drugstore brands, it goes on like velvet, blends beautifully and adds a gorgeous warm glow to my skin.
OVERALL VERDICT: I do still love the Rimmel Sun Shimmer and the TB palette so I would say that its another draw!

Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015
Lips:
I didn't wear lipsticks back in the day as I was a little scared of them so I only used Vaseline or the Bourjois Effect 3D Lip Gloss (£7.99). Today is a very different story, I am more of a matte girl rather than glossy one and I haven't looked at this lip gloss since then, I don't know why as I really liked it. Now, I am all about the drama and especially love dark lips so my favourite of the moment is Makeup Revolution Iconic Lipstick in Blindfolded (£2.49) as the lipsticks are so pigmented, glide on like butter and are non-drying.
OVERALL VERDICT: 2015 all the way!
Drugstore Beauty Favourites: 2005 vs 2015 - Source

Concealer
I can’t remember wearing concealer in 2005 but I think I wore Collection back then when I could be bothered. Today, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4.19) is still my favourite drugstore concealer.
OVERALL VERDICT: Collection concealer all the way! I obviously had good taste back then as well as today.

And that's all of my favourites from 2005 and 2015. So what’s changed since then? Well, for one, my foundation matches my skin tone. I wear a lot of highlighter now as I love a glow to my skin. I bronze my skin a little better by focusing on certain areas by contouring the skin rather than slapping it on. I also love a winged liner now and false lashes whereas I only wore mascara back then. I don’t coat my face in Rimmel Sun Shimmer tan and then throw on 2 coats of foundation…WHAT WAS I THINKING? I also own more than one brush, I honestly used the same brush for everything and I applied my makeup with my hands, now its all about Real TechniquesBeauty BlenderZoevaCrown and Sigma for me. As for 2015, it’s all about refinement and making sure the foundation matches my neck. I stepped away from the fake tan and now focus on my eyes with a lot of shadows. I wouldn't even dream of buying eyeshadow back then, I skipped that whole blue eyeshadow phase thank God! I have become a huge dark lip addict, most of my lipsticks are dark reds, purples and blacks now whereas before it was all about a nude lip-gloss.

OVERALL VERDICT: I don't really wear anything from 2005 anymore. I think I will pick up some of the products though to see if they are good as I remember or if I will look like a disaster haha.

The Fall Fashion: Style Guide with Peter Minkoff

The Fall Fashion: Style Guide with Peter Minkoff
Hi guys,

I have been an incredibly bad blogger as I haven't managed to get any posts out recently and have been too busy to talk to anyone via social media. As you may or may not know, I entered my final year of Uni at the end of September and I have been swamped with work ever since. I don't know why I thought this year would be a breeze because it is not! On top of studying, I have got myself a little job in an accounting firm near me which means I can put all my knowledge to good use. I am so excited, I thought I was going to have to wait forever to get a job and was really panicking about it but thank God they contacted me and offered me something part time to work round Uni. I have also been super busy with The Body Coach as I started Cycle 1 3 weeks ago and have to keep on top of food prep and exercising which takes a lot out of you. If you would like to see an update on Cycle 1, just let me know in the comments below guys and I will let you know at the end of the 4 weeks. Moving away from my personal life and onto the actual post now shall we?

Homemade Mint and Lemon Lip Scrub

Mint and Lemon Lip Scrub
Hi guys,

Today I thought I would put together a little lip scrub post. I don't know about you but my lips have felt the effects of air conditioning and also all the bad weather here in Scotland as it really can’t make up its mind whether it wants to be sunny or rainy!
