Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Velvets

Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Velvets

Apocalips Matte Lip Velvets

Rimmel Apocalips Swatches

Hi guys,

I had read so many reviews on the new Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Velvets (£6.49) and decided to pick them up. There are only 4 colours in the line-up at the moment but i am pretty sure there will be more added as they have proved to be popular.

The colours i picked up were Burning Lava and Atomic Rose, you can find my recent haul post here if you wanna see what else I bought. Boots were offering 2 for £10 which is always nice and i can safely say i was happy with my choices. Burning Lava is a deep red shade which is going to be great for Autumn/Winter and Atomic Rose is an orange pink shade which will be perfect all year round.

This feels like a mousse when applied to the lips. It glided on with such ease but I would wear a lip liner with it to prevent it from going outside the lines, especially with Burning Lava as I noticed it did bleed out over the course of the day. It did dry pretty quickly but I would have liked it to dry quicker if I’m being honest.

With all matte products they are normally very drying on the lips but these weren’t bad at all. I loved the colours, although I wish there was more options to choose from. All in all, a great little product.

Have you tried these lip velvets yet?

My Workout Routine

My Workout Routine - Beauty Talk With Lauren

Hi guys,

As you know I have been eagerly trying to lose weight and have surprised myself by going to the gym almost every day for the past 4 weeks. What’s even more surprising is the fact I have loved it. I know the gym isn't for everyone and it certainly wasn't for me but I woke up one day after a kick up the arse and decided to get a membership and get myself down to the gym every day.

As I am a student, I get my membership for £21 which allows me into the gym, pool, all classes, weight room and any other activities in other gyms within South Lanarkshire. I find it great value for money as it has cost less than £1 per day so far.

I have been an eager beaver over the past few weeks and have been going 6 times a week. I have incorporated different things into my routine so I will list them below for anyone who is interested.

1. Gym and Weights:

Blantyre Gym

I have been hitting the gym 5 times per week. On these days I have been focusing on cardio by doing 30 minutes on the bike. I like to warm up on the cross trainer or by walking on the treadmill as I couldn’t cope with 30 minutes of these. I wouldn’t dare do anything on the rower as I hate it! I don’t care how good it is for you, I’m not touching it. I then alternate my weight days too by focusing on arms and shoulders one day, legs another and then back on another so I get it all in and work my whole body.

2. Swimming:

Blantyre Swimming Pool

I go swimming 3 times per week. Trying to find a time where it isn’t busy proves very difficult as I have gone at 7.30am, 11.30am, 2,30pm, 4.30pm or 7pm and it is mobbed each time. I have asked the receptionist when is best to go and she tells me that the pool is always busy. It’s annoying as I wish they had more pools. At the moment they have a baby pool and swimming pool which is used for everything including classes, lessons, swimmers, pro swimmer and then kids wanting to have fun so it would be great if they could invest in another pool which is purely for people who want to stroll up and down and for kids to play in rather than all of us trying to find space to get a workout in.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. I do love the swimming after a class as I feel it soothes my aching muscles which prevents me from being sore the following day. I normally do 20 lengths in 30 minutes or 40 lengths in an hour. This is great for toning up as it gives your body a full workout plus its enjoyable, who doesn't love swimming.

3. Classes:
Body Pump Class
All pictures were sourced through Google Images.
I only go to one class per week as I’m still building myself up, I might add another one in sometime soon but I’ll see how it goes. The class I’m currently enjoying is Body Pump which is all free weights with squats, lunges etc. This is a toughie and my first week was almost unbearable for a few days after because my bones and muscles felt as though they were going to fall off but I powered through and continued with swimming for 2 days afterwards to ease me back into the gym again. I have since been to another Body Pump class and haven’t felt anywhere near as bad as I did the first time.

I have completely changed the way in which I am losing weight this time as I haven’t bothered weighing myself nor have I been taking pictures on a weekly basis but I have taken one at the start and I will take one every month to see the progress in picture form rather than weigh ins. I have also stopped eating after 7pm, I never noticed this at all until I was speaking with Liam (my boyfriend) and he mentioned that I stopped having a slice of toast before bed and I wasn’t eating any naughty snacks either so obviously this has been helping. No silly diets, just sensible eating is the way forward for me I think as I don't constantly think about my next meal. I have been sticking to my water drinking habits so I normally have 2 to 3 litres per day.

I hope this works for me and if so I will keep you posted with my progress if you are interested.

Hi guys

Now that autumn is finally here and I have put all of these lipsticks front and centre so it’s easier for me to grab one of the darker shades in my collection. Autumn is obviously my favourite time of the year. I love the smell in the air, I love fireworks, I love hot baths with warmer scents, I love Halloween and candy apples, and I love the colours of leaves and chunky knitwear. But most of all I love that it is perfectly acceptable to drink hot chocolate every day as of now ha-ha.

This post is about lipsticks though so I am gonna dive straight in.

1. Mac Riri Woo (£15.50) – I love colour of this. It is obviously a repackaged version of the popular Ruby Woo but I find this is an extreme matte. I do love this lipstick but if you don’t like matte lipsticks then you won’t like this as it is very stiff when applying. I am used to it now and find it is the perfect lipstick. I normally apply a lip liner first to give a sharp edge and then apply Riri Woo to fill in my lips. I have linked Ruby Woo for you as this is limited edition and has sold out.

2. Limecrime Poisonberry – I think this is my favourite lipstick. It is the most gorgeous purple shade I have come across and is something I will repurchase over and over until they stop selling them. This gives an opaque finish so it isn’t matte. It isn’t drying on the lips at all but I still apply a lip balm underneath as I have gotten used to that step. This tends to bleed a little so make sure to line your lips with a deep purple shade.

3. Apocalips Matte Lip Velvet in Burning Lava (£6.49) – This is a mousse like product. It’s supposed to be a matte finish but it isn’t as intense as a full blown matte meaning it doesn’t dry out your lips too much. It is a gorgeous deep red shade that is perfect for this time of year. Again, use a lip liner and then apply for a sharper edge.

4. Elizabeth Arden in Brick (£21) – This is a brownish red. This has a creamy finish which is perfect for those who don’t want a matte finish. I like this when I want a sheen finish to my lips. I don’t wear lip-glosses but this is perfect for creating a nice shine without the stickiness of a gloss. Obviously it rubs off during the day but pop it in your bag if you are going out and apply throughout the day.

5. Elizabeth Arden in Ruby Rose (£21) – I love this colour. Sometimes you don’t want to wear dark lips and I have reached for this on those days to give my lips a hint of colour.

6. Tom Ford Ultra Shine Gloss in Wet Violet (£33) - I have a full review which you can find here but this is the perfect shade for autumn/winter. As I said, I don’t like to wear glosses but I will make an exception for this as it’s far too good.

7. Mac in Rebel (£15) – I buy this over and over as it’s the most beautiful berry shade. It isn’t too intense. If you want to venture out into darker shades, I would line my lips and pop this on. Use your finger to wash it out a little if you don’t like it too dark and then apply a clear gloss over the top to further dilute it. If, like me, you are a dark lip lover then apply and let those lips do the talking. This is also a matte finish.

What is your favourite shade for autumn?

Liebster Award | Updated

Hi guys,

I already carried out one of these tags but since the gorgeous Jake over at Make Up by Jake James nominated me and I love him, I decided to do another one. He had the nicest things to say about me which almost melted this black heart of my mine. “@animpatientscot a true treasure! Your kind, thoughtful, happy and incredibly beautiful! Thank you also for all of your help” How sweet is that!

So here goes, the instructions are as follows:
1. Get nominated
2. Link back the girl/guy who nominated you
3. Do the questions
4. Nominate 5-20 people to do the questions.

Q U E S T I O N S

1. What are your top 3 bloggers and why?
I think anyone who knows me knows me knows who I am going to say. Obviously Vivianna Does MakeupCaroline Hirons and Pixi Woo. I started out watching Pixi Woo on YouTube and then moved onto their blog. Vivianna Does Makeup was the first blog I truly fell in love with and she made me want to blog. Caroline Hirons is a skincare Goddess. She knows everything and I trust her judgement on all products. I urge you to head over immediately and give them a read (obvs read the rest of my answers first)

2. What drives you?
Success and making my family proud of me drives me. I always think about having a family myself one day and I want to have a home set up, get a good career and have some savings so Liam and I can give them a fantastic childhood. I obviously want to get married too but I don’t want a big wedding, I really want to elope somewhere to make it as hassle free as possible. I have been lucky enough to have been employed in some pretty bomb ass companies where I have met some fantastic folk but now I am back at college working towards a degree in Accountancy which will make my dad very happy. Obviously Liam is a massive driving force too, without him I wouldn’t be as happy or content. He makes me proud and I hope I make him proud of me.

3. What little thing makes you happy?
My mum, she is the littlest woman I know ha-ha. No in all seriousness, the small things that make me happy are pamper nights with a good book, a glass of wine and a warm bubble bath. It’s the small things that keep all of us happy really and these are mine.

4. What is your dream job/ personal goal?
Dream job was always to be an actress but that ship has sailed. Blogging wise, I want to just jeep doing what I’m doing really. I enjoy it as a hobby and if it goes any further then I will be happy with that too. Work wise, I am working away in college to gain the grades for university. So far I am ace-ing every test and seem to be at the top of my class which is an achievement.

5. Do you have a favourite food?
Pass me a Mexican meal and a bottle of Tequila... sorry you only asked for food didn't you ha-ha. Tiramisu is the way to my heart along with a rare steak and peppercorn sauce.

6. What is your favourite beauty brand? (Makeup or facial care, or hair etc.)
Why am I always asked this question??? Soap and Glory. They have everything you would need.

7. Favourite clothes shop?
River Island, H&M, Asos and Primark.

8. What would be your spirit animal and why?
Anything that lounges about ha-ha. I can be quite lazy sometimes and have been known to turn off my phone and lie about my house all weekend without being annoyed. Its perfection.

9. Why did you start blogging?
I started as I used to read Vivianna Does Makeups blog and loved what she was doing. I was giving advice to friends and family when it came to beauty anyway so I thought I would share my views online. That first blogpost is scary as shit but once it’s done, it’s done.

10. Have you changed much over the last year?
Yeah I’ve gotten fatter! Ha-ha. Everyone changes and if you don’t, then I don’t really know what to tell. It’s healthy to grow and change as long as it’s for the better. If you start to see yourself becoming a bit of an arsehole, it’s time to revert back to your good old self. But yes I have changed. I have grew up, finally at 29 I know what I want to do.

11. If you could star in a TV series based on your life, what would it be? (Sitcom, drama etc...)
I would have to say Supernatural as I just want to wrap arms, legs and my lips around Dean Winchesters face and never let go, plus his brothers a bit of alright. I love supernatural things and I’m always having “experiences”. Once I saw a female ghost standing over me but I wasn’t scared. Obviously not everyone believes in it, but I couldn’t justify that with anything else, it was as clear as day.

N O M I N A T I O N S

She is an absolute babe. I absolutely love her blog, her style of writing and her fashion sense is phenomenal.
She is lovely. She has been a great support to me over the past couple of months by answering loads of my questions.
3) Brenda Busy Bee
What’s not to like, she’s gorgeous, funny, blonde and has a beautiful blog.
Another stunner amongst this mix and she is just the sweetest person.
5) Carolin
She is a doll and has been very supportive to me. I just love her and think she is adorable.

Blogger Tag

Blogger Tag - An Impatient Scottish Girl

Hi guys,

If you haven't already guessed, todays post is another tag. I was tagged by the lovely Brenda over at Brenda Busy Bee so thank you very much.

1. What is your favourite beauty product?
I would have to say the Maybelline Falsies Mascara. I have been wearing this for as long as I can remember. I mean I swap it out with other brands but I always come back to this. I tend to have makeup free days but if I don’t want to look completely dead then I add a coat of mascara and I feel a little more alive.

2. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Oh, I have so many places. I would love to go travelling round Vietnam & Cambodia. My absolute top spot has to be reserved for Santorini though, I remember seeing pictures of the caves and the water when I was younger and it’s always stuck in my mind so maybe Liam will take me away for my 30th birthday next year ha-ha! Doubt it but a girl can always dream. I would also like to do a road trip to round America but for now its Santorini.

3. What is your all-time favourite brand?
Oh Man! I would say Soap and Glory. They have makeup, skincare and the best bath products ever.

4. Do you collect anything, if so what is it?
I collect makeup. I know it goes out of date so anything that has pretty packaging, I keep on display in my second bedroom.

5. Early bird or night owl?
Early Bird, I am awake at 7am every morning. I head in for a shower, grab my breakfast and then head to college. On the weekend and days off I normally get up at 7.30am and head to the gym but I do stay up later when I know I am off. I like to have nights out, but I don’t do it very often as I am a homebody.

6. Tea or coffee?
I prefer coffee if truth be told but I get incredible heartburn. I now drink herbal teas but I miss my coffee.

7. What is your favourite TV show?
Why are these questions legal???? I have far too many. Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Sex and The City, Supernatural, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Orange Is The New Black, Once Upon A Time, Friends, Ghost Whisperer and Chicago Fire. I also love my trashy TV including The Hill and Geordie Shore.

8. If you could travel to any era what would it be?
I would say the 30s/40s as I loved the glamour of those days and I would have ran around this world bare foot until I met Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Bette Davis, James Dean, James Garner and Ava Gardener!

Hope you liked my answers. Please feel free to carry this out, even if you haven’t been tagged.

Kerastase Nutritive Range | Bain Satin 1 And Lait Vital

Kerastase Nutritive Range | Bain Satin 1 And Lait Vital

Kerastase Nutritive Range Bain Satin 1

Kerastase Nutritive Range Lait Vital

Hi guys,

As you saw in my recent haul post, I managed to get my hands on the Look Fantastic Beauty Box this month, there were only a limited supply of boxes so as soon as I heard about it I put an order in straight away and got it.

I'm not really one for beauty boxes as I keep saying but I was surprised at the products in this box as well as the size of the samples. All samples were deluxe size apart from the This Works Pillow Spray. I don’t know if you know this about me, but I used to be a colour technician when I was younger so hair products excite me and I do remember using this brand all those years ago and loving it.

The Nutritive Bain Satin 1 Shampoo and the Nutritive Lait Vital Care Treatment (£38.80 for both) are amazing. The smell isn't all that great to be honest but I’m not fussed about that. As long as they work ha-ha. This range is specifically made for dry to normal hair which gives a deep clean as well as a lightweight conditioning. I obviously used these straight away as I was keen to see how they worked with my hair which is normal to greasy and quite fine.

The shampoo was great, I felt as though it gave a really good clean and left me with beautifully soft hair. It lathered quite well and washed out perfectly fine. The conditioner was the star of the show though. My hair felt brand new. Do you know when you go to the hairdressers and it gets washed, cut and blow dried and feels stunning, well this is exactly what this did. I don’t tend to use conditioner all that often but when I do, I leave it in my hair overnight and wash it out in the morning by shampooing again. I tried that method with this product and I swear, I don’t think I have ever felt my hair being any softer or looking healthier.

If you want to have healthy looking hair that feels clean and looks ridiculously shiny, buy these. I know that as soon as I have ran out of these I will be buying the full size Care Treatment (£20.90) as it done what it said on the tin. I agree it is quite expensive but honestly, a treatment as good as this will last a while as you only need a little bit each time you use it.

Have you tried these products?
Did you receive the Look Fantastic Beauty Box?
What hair product do you love?

Haul

Urban Decay Lipstick

Ren Skincare

Skincare

Hi guys,

I know, I hold my hands up. I have no will power when it comes to beauty products. I obviously didn’t buy this at the same time, I have bought this over a few weeks so I thought I would share. I am going to be good from now on as Christmas is coming up and so is my nieces 3rd birthday as well as my baby sisters 18th so this will be it until January unless I get some gift vouchers for Christmas ha-ha.

The first thing I picked up was the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth 3 in 1 Cleansing Gelee (£24 for 118ml) as I wanted a new cleanser and this looked pretty good. Since my Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm (£38) ran out I have been using normal face washes and I really wanted to get something that was a little less invasive when removing makeup. I will do a review as soon as I have used this a few times so I good a feel for it. I also bought the Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturising Treatment Foundation (£33) in the colour Sand from Selfridges. I had my eye on this foundation for a while as I was intrigued by the “treatment” part of it. I also like anything that is moisturising as I do suffer from dry skin every now and again. Again, I will do a full review once I have used more than once to get a better idea of how it works.

I was then lucky enough to receive one of the Look Fantastic Beauty Boxes (£10 per month) which were limited edition. The items in this box were very good, I honestly don’t like beauty boxes as they start off good and then go downhill very quickly but this looked pretty impressive. I am dying to try the Kerastase Bain Satin Shampoo (£17.90) and Lait Vital Conditioner (£20.90) as I haven’t used this brand since my hairdressing days. These are deluxe sized samples which are incredible so I will get a few uses from each. I am also dying to try the St Tropez Mousse (£24.99) as I have heard great things as well as the This Works Pillow Spray (£16). All in all, a pretty cool little box.

I then went along to Boots didn’t I? I desperately needed Radox Herbal Bath Salts (£1.05 for 400g) as my muscles had been aching ever since I started back at the gym and this is the only thing that truly helps. I then spotted the new Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Lacquer (£6.49 each or 2 for £10) so I picked up the shades 505 Burning Lava and 206 Atomic Rose. Burning Lava is a deep rich red colour which will be perfect for the Autumn/Winter and Atomic Rose is a dusky pink shade which is perfect for everyday use.

As my Pixi Glow Tonic (£18) is almost done, I decided to pick up the Ren Clarimatte Clarifying Toner (£12 for 150ml). This is supposed to help with blemish prone skin so I will give an update as to whether this is good or not.

Everything else was pretty standard purchases that I needed such as Clean & Clear Morning Energy Face Wash (£4) & Nail Nurse (£4.49) which conditions the nail. I then decided to pick up some Urban Decay items from Debenhams starting with the Revolution Lipstick in Lovelight (£15) and the new Urban Decay Oil Control Setting Spray (£20 for 118ml).

If you want a review of any of the products, please let me know in the comments below and I will be happy to oblige.
